AARANYA LOW-COST HOUSING
My notes on Aranya Housing (Vastu Shilpa Foundation)
Aaranya Low-Cost Housing is a social and economic endeavor as much as it is an architectural one. It presents not a closed, rigid condition but one that is situated within a temporal fabric, where the socioeconomic needs of the collective community manifest as architectural growth and variation. Here, the interface between the idea of home and urban space is blurred as a result of continuous, collective outdoor space. Places of work, rest, and leisure are superimposed and transient, as the relationships between the residents form and deform dynamically.
Our axon can then position the project not as a kit of parts, but emphasise the possibility of living in all the housing types. - Show superimpositions of program and structure
The larger context might be the interface between international modernism and the local cultural context. The moment of conflict then manifests as linear, geometric developments that are layered with informal configurations, and even domesticated beings - cows, goats, and chickens.
Thanks to Aiden Hilger - my partner in this studio project.
